A Model of Void Formation

چکیده

We introduce a simple model for the formation of voids. In this model the underdensity of galaxies in voids is the product of two factors. The first arises from a gravitational expansion of the negative density perturbation. The second is due to biasing: galaxies are less likely to form in an underdense region. One feature of the model is an upper cutoff in void sizes. We calculate the volume filling factor of characteristic voids for different CDM models and find that our formation model points to ΛCDM models as preferred models of the power spectrum. A natural consequence of our model is that the underdensity of the dark matter inside voids is smaller than the galaxy underdensity.

ECT and LS-SVM Based Void Fraction Measurement of Oil-Gas Two-Phase Flow

A method based on Electrical Capacitance Tomography (ECT) and an improved Least Squares Support Vector Machine (LS-SVM) is proposed for void fraction measurement of oil-gas two-phase flow. In the modeling stage, to solve the two problems in LS-SVM, pruning skills are employed to make LS-SVM sparse and robust; then the Real-Coded Genetic Algorithm is introduced to solve the difficult problem...

Radiation in the process of the formation of voids

This paper aims to investigate the influence of inhomogeneous radiation in void formation. Since the process of void formation is non–linear, a fully relativistic model, which simulates the evolution of voids from the moment of the last scattering until the present instant, is presented. It is found that in order to obtain a model of a void which evolves from δ0 = −10 −5 at the last scattering ...

Where do “ red and dead ” early - type void galaxies come from ? Darren

Void regions of the Universe offer a special environment for studying cosmology and galaxy formation, which may expose weaknesses in our understanding of these phenomena. Although galaxies in voids are observed to be predominately gas rich, star forming and blue, a sub-population of bright red void galaxies can also be found, whose star formation was shut down long ago. Are the same processes t...

Ultra-Low Cycle Fatigue Fracture Life of a Type of Buckling Restrained Brace

Buckling restrained braced frames (BRBFs) for seismic load resistance have been widely used in recent years. One of the key requirements for a buckling restrained brace is to sustain large plastic deformations under severe ground motions. The core of a buckling restrained brace is prone to fatigue fracture under cyclic loading. The earthquake induced fracture type of the core plate in a bucklin...

A hierarchy of voids: Much ado about nothing

We present a model for the distribution of void sizes and its evolution in the context of hierarchical scenarios of gravitational structure formation. We find that at any cosmic epoch the voids have a size distribution which is well-peaked about a characteristic void size which evolves self-similarly in time. This is in distinct contrast to the distribution of virialized halo masses which does ...
